Collectibility is not necessarily about usability.

Yes I could buy one but it would need to be very special and famous, one of a kind, not something common a famous player can just produce anytime now.

It would be sick as heck to have Bloodlight's rhino hammer.

A friend of mine has some Holiday Headgear customised for Chop Chop and another "famous" GvGer who's name currently escapes me.

I wouldn't buy one of these items but I wouldn't turn one down either.

Well, some people have more money than sense.

Also, famous Guild Wars players? Do not make me laugh. If one plays the game so often to become truly exceptional at it and are around almost all the time so people instantly recognise them, they would not earn my adulation but instead my pity, for they obviously have absolutely no social life.

Nope I would never buy a weapon or anything else customized of a so called "famous player" and if I was given a weapon free customized from a "famous player" I would probably trash it just for lawls.

if by famous you mean like a pro athlete, musician, or actor, maybe. If you mean a person "famous" (and I emphasize the quotes) from playing GW, then I'll laugh my ass off at the proposition.

Aaaaand no, absolutely not. Some people might have the ecto to waste on something like that, but I sure don't. To me that makes less sense than buying cape trim. But some people just like collecting stuff, so to each his own I guess.

Why would anyone would buy a customized weapon?
Who cares about the name on it if I can't use it?

Wait, first of all...
Is there such thing like a Famous GW player?
It's not like there are a statue of a player in Lion's Arch or something like that to make them famous.
Not really that much people observe PvP or follow community in forums.

You are more likely to become famous by being an asshole in Shing Jea during a festival or by pulling a incredible hack or cheat and then being banned, than being a good GW player, mostly because by being a good player, you'll be playing, and that happens in instances, where no one can see you.

That's anet's fault for putting the trophies in GToB instead of LA and Kamadan.

For the mass of GW (yes that's the PvE crowd) I would think (besides the devs) there is only 1 player that everyone has heard of. This guy Is "known" by far more players than anyone else that I can think of.

Personally, I wouldn't want to buy such a thing, nor would I want it if I didn't know the "famous" person involved. I certainly can't fault anyone for collecting seemingly useless stuff though!

But I'm very fond of my signed items from famousish friends. I wouldn't consider selling them for any amount of pixels nor would they hold as much sentimental value if I'd bought them from strangers.

It's posts like that that show why e-sports will never be taken seriously.

In Korea, top players can fill stadiums. In the US, we make fun of them (even if they are making $100k+ a year playing video games).

80% of the time, the answer will that they do not know that guy.

Yah, because everyone looks at the names in the Trophy and remember them.
When the Xunlai Tournament House was still open, quite some people looked at the names, and many checked in their forums and discussed who could be the best one next time.
Now that there's nothing like that, names are quickly forgotten.

Yes, people observe, you observe. I did it too.
But most people don't even bother. And that's true unless you change the definition of 'people'.
First of all, while you observe, you are not playing.
I learn more by playing than by watching others play. It's like watching football. Yes, you see synergy, bodyblocking techniques and whatnot, but you don't get to feel them unless you are the one doing them.

No one gets to be the next Pelé by sitting their ass on the couch.

I would guess it depends on whether or not you have the "collector" gene and where it leads you. I don't understand paying big bucks for signed gear from well known athletes or movie stars, but I have quite a few author-signed books. Each to his/her own.
